On the occasion of the completion of 106 years of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, and under the guidance of the Honourable President of the Congress, Mr. Chandra Nimal Wakishta, a religious programme was organized with the participation of the Honourable Executive Committee of the Buddhist Maha Sammelanaya, along with all its members.
This event was held to commemorate the founding Honourable President of the Buddhist Maha Sammelanaya, the late Sir D. B. Jayatilaka, as well as 32 former Presidents who guided the journey of the Congress, the members who contributed to the establishment of the Congress, and the benefactors who supported its progress and development. In addition, blessings were invoked for the present Executive Committee and office bearers, all members, staff, and the people of the entire country.
Accordingly, Pirith chanting was conducted under the leadership of the Chief Sangha Nayaka of Colombo New Korale and Chief Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Temple, the Most Venerable Kirinde Assaji Nayaka Thero. The event was graced by the presence of the Honourable Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Attorney-at-Law Mr. Sunil Watagala, the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, Mr. M. Gamini Senarathna, and the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Province, Mr. Sajeeva Medawatta.
On the following morning, a Sanghika Dana (alms-giving) was offered to the Most Venerable Maha Sangha, organized by the Honourable President, the Executive Committee, office bearers, all members, and the staff.
Subsequently, the Sasana Veera Day Commemoration Ceremony was held. At this ceremony, honors were bestowed upon Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithree Moorthy Mahanayaka Thero, Most Venerable Narampanawa Ananda Anunayaka Thero, Most Venerable Mugunuwela Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, and Professor Asanga Tilakaratne.
