In connection with the 106th Anniversary of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC), and to brief the Most Venerable Mahanayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiriya Chapters of the Siam Maha Nikaya on the current challenges and issues faced by the country, the nation, and the Buddha Sasana, a special meeting was held in Kandy on 9 January 2026.
The President of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, Mr. Chandra Nimal Wakishta, and the Deputy President, Mr. Roshan Maddumage, paid their respects to the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thero of the Malwathu Chapter, the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Maha Nayaka Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter, as well as the Anunayaka Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter, the Most Venerable Narampanawa Ananda Thero.
On this occasion, the Most Venerable Mahanayake and Anunayake Theros bestowed their blessings upon the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress and commended the valuable role carried out by the Congress as one of the foremost Buddhist organizations in Sri Lanka.
The Theros emphasized that, by bringing together both the lay and monastic communities, the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress possesses a strong capacity to further expand its national, religious, and social services. Accordingly, they encouraged the Congress to take leadership in carrying out such a significant and meaningful role.
It was also discussed that education plays a decisive role in shaping the future direction of a country, and therefore deserves special attention.
Furthermore, the long-standing contribution of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress—one of the country’s leading Buddhist organizations with a history spanning over a century—was also recalled and appreciated during the discussion.
